Minnesota’s Most Beautiful Churches; Plus a Briefing of Mighty Fortress Church

There is no denying churches are beautiful and meaningful in many ways, and these selected churches from Minnesota are wonderful examples.
The Assumption Chapel, located in Cold Spring, is also known as Grasshopper Chapel. A Gothic-style granite perched upon a tree-shrouded hill, this little church has an interesting history. The original structure was built by two parishes in the 1870’s in response to a grasshopper plague. Notably by the church’s second mass, there wasn’t another grasshopper to be found. The Assumption Chapel of today was built in 1951 after the original was destroyed by a tornado.

The Episcopal Church of Our Savior, located in Little Falls, is a historic second generation Episcopal church. The current building was erected in 1903. The original church was built around 1858 by Bishop Henry Whipple. A unique blend of Gothic and Tudor-styled architecture, the beautiful building harkens back to a more English-style of church and features a vibrantly red door and steeply pitched roof upon its bell tower. The structure was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
The Stella Marie Chapel, on the campus of St. John’s University, was built in a Romanesque-style, and gorgeous site to behold as it reflects beautifully against Lake Sagatagan and is only accessible by canoeing across the lake or by a one-mile hike and was constructed by St. John’s Abbey’s own Benedictine Monks in 1915.
The Mighty Fortress Church in Minneapolis is a revolutionary establishment categorized as non-denominational. The church was established with only one goal in mind: to bring people to worship God.
It is known as a friendly place accepting to all to learn about Christ in a peaceful, safe environment free of judgement and fear. Mighty Fortress presents a more relaxed ‘come as you are’ type of vibe. The church’s mission above all is to spread the word of Christ.
Bishop Thomas Williams is the senior pastor and founder of the church. He is a ministerial graduate of Rhema Bible Training Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, has been in the ministry for over 30 years, and is a highly respected gospel minister.
