The Academy of Art University’s 21st Show at New York Fashion Week

Recently the Academy of Art University held its 21st fashion showcase at New York Fashion Week. This is something that the academy has the honor of being asked to do biannually. The show brought together a diverse group of designers with a range of design aesthetics and backgrounds. The designers were from all over the world including China, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Maine, and everywhere in between. This diversity showed in their work from design and construction to the materials used and impressed the attendees including top professionals such as Ms. J Alexander and Sara Kozlowski. The clothing itself was made from traditional materials such as wool and denim and such innovative and unexpected materials as recycled rubber bike tubes and vinyl.

The Academy of Art University is an innovative school that offers a creative environment for students to learn the discipline of art and design. The academy is located in San Francisco and opened in 1929. The surrounding area is perfect for creatives– there are plenty of museums, concert venues, and galleries as well as excellent public transportation.

When the academy first began, its focus was on advertising art. However, now it offers degrees and certificates in just about every creative field imaginable such as advertising, graphic design, illustration, art history, fashion, photography and more. As of 2002, there is even an online option for students who wish to study from a distance.

The academy boasts a prestigious faculty. Their teachers are all creatives working in their field of art and design. Students at the Academy of Art Institute have gone on to enjoy successful careers in their chosen field of art at top companies such as Disney, Chanel, Prada, Gap, and Adidas. Many of their students have also been recognized for their work and have been nominated for and won awards such as Oscars and Emmys.
